Long-term observation in six classrooms in Hanseong Elementary School, South Korea, revealed higher teacher expectations for high-social-status students, which influenced teacher-student interactions, peer group interactions, and academic achievement (thus affecting access to limited higher education). Results are discussed in relation to past South Korean educational reforms seeking to equalize opportunity. (SV)
