Language Development, Metalinguistic Awareness, and Emergent Literary Skills of 3-Year-Old Children in Relation to Social Class.
Chaney, Carolyn
Applied Psycholinguistics, v15 n3 p371-94 Sep 1994
This study investigated the relationships among selected aspects of normal language development, emerging metalinguistic skills, concepts about print, and family literacy experiences in 43 preschoolers from various socioeconomic backgrounds. It found that family reports of literacy activities were associated with income and that children's language development was a significant predictor of their metalinguistic awareness.
