Reviews and evaluates 1993 text summarizing research related to three child outcomes: (1) self-control; (2) self-concept; and (3) communication competencies. Suggests that target audience includes researchers and students who are interested in parenting and/or child outcomes or instructors hoping to demonstrate how underlying assumptions influence research questions, methods, and results interpretations.
