The most promising responses to the demands of the high performance workplace are integration of academic and vocational education, tech prep, school-based enterprises, and cooperative education. Vocational education research should closely monitor the workplace, eliminate the "factory" model, and examine effects of workplace demands on education and their compatibility with the purposes of education.
