This article suggests that, because of fraud among college students and applicants claiming to be American Indians or Alaska Natives, claimants be required to prove membership in a federally recognized tribe or nation. In a pilot verification project at the University of California, Los Angeles, less than 15% of claimants provided appropriate documentation. (MSE)
