Life Stress, Social Support, and Problem-Solving Skills Predictive of Depressive Symptoms, Hopelessness, and Suicide Ideation in an Asian Student Population: A Test of a Model.
Yang, Bin; Clum, George A.
Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, v24 n2 p127-39 Sum 1994
Tested stress-problem-solving and stress-social support models in etiology of depressive symptoms, hopelessness, and suicide ideation for Asian international students (n=101). Hypothesized problem-solving skills and social support as mediators between life stress and depressive symptoms, hopelessness, and suicide ideation. Results supported hypotheses and suggest that hopelessness may directly affect depressive symptoms and indirectly affect suicide ideation. (Author/NB)
