Explaining Variation in Teaching Practices? Effects of State Policy, Teacher Background, and Curricula in Southern Africa.
Fuller, Bruce; And Others
Teaching and Teacher Education, v10 n2 p141-56 Mar 1994
This study examined how much natural variation existed in teaching practices among schools in Botswana. Surveys and observations of Botswanan secondary teachers indicated their behavior was simple, teacher-centered, and involved few instructional tools. Pedagogical routines were consistent over time. External organizational factors significantly explained the modest amount of observed variation. (SM)
