Prediction of School Outcomes Based on Early Language Production and Socioeconomic Factors.
Walker, Dale; And Others
Child Development, v65 n2 Apr p606-21 1994
Examined predictive properties of early language-learning experiences, parent socioeconomic status, and parenting skills on later academic performance in 29 toddlers from varying socioeconomic backgrounds. Variables predicted language and academic performance up to 10 years later in elementary school. Children whose early experiences led to smaller vocabularies by age three had lower language and reading-related performance through third grade. (MDM)
