Attempts to Improve English L2 Pronunciation: The Variable Effects of Different Types of Instruction.
Macdonald, Doris; And Others
Language Learning, v44 n1 p75-100 Mar 1994
Compared pronunciation of targeted vocabulary items in spontaneous speech by 23 adult Chinese learners of English as a Second Language grouped according to mode of instruction: (1) traditional drilling activities; (2) self-study with tape recordings; (3) interactive activities; and (4) nonintervention control condition. Ratings of pronunciation by 120 native-speaking listeners found little evidence to favor single mode of instruction. (MDM)
