This paper discusses the industrial sound environment, prevalence of occupational hearing loss (OHL), consequences, ways in which workers cope, and steps to prevent such disabilities and maximize participation of people with OHL in the work setting. The paper shows that hearing loss is concealed, and demanding situations are avoided, resulting in self-restriction in career advancement. (Author/JDD)
