The Role of Curriculum in the Racial Desegregation of Schools: Controversies in Dayton, Ohio, 1967-1981.
Watras, Joseph
Journal of Curriculum and Supervision, v9 n3 p250-66 Spr 1994
Reviews plans to desegregate schools in Dayton, Ohio, highlighting liberal cross-town busing plans and conservative plans for science centers. Efforts to desegregate Catholic schools by abolishing parish boundaries and establishing black-white encounter groups failed; so did an "alternative" Episcopal school's individualized instruction program. Later, administrators used multicultural curricula to pacify competing subcultures while maintaining the status quo. (38 references.) (MLH)
