Used data from 1987 National Medical Expenditure Survey to examine extent to which economic assets gained through marriage explain inverse relationship between marriage and poor health for women. Married women rated their health higher than did divorced, separated, widowed, and never married women. Findings indicated that much though not all of variation was explained by economic factors.
