Stretched Thin in Rural America: A Study of Districts Combining the Superintendency and the Principalship.
Heath, Jay A.; Vik, Phil
ERS Spectrum, v11 n2 p3-9 Spr 1993
A study of 25 South Dakota school districts found that combining the superintendency with either the elementary or the secondary principalship was not an ideal arrangement. For the district and teachers, the most consistent disadvantages relate to inadequate instructional leadership. For the superintendents, the greatest disadvantage is sacrifice of personal and family time simply to keep the organization functioning. (MLH)
