Presented are four speeches from the American Library Association's 1992 Annual Conference, held in San Francisco in June 1992. Presenters call for publishers, librarians, and educators to provide meaningful literary experiences about culturally diverse populations to encourage the development of empathy, self-esteem, understanding, and tolerance in children.
