Manning, Brenda; Tuguz, Hiam K.
Journal of Alcohol and Drug Education, v38 n1 p86-97 Fall 1992
Explored connotative meanings of alcohol, cocaine, hashish, and marijuana among 29 Indonesian and U.S. graduate students. Found significant differences between groups on six adjective pairs for alcohol, four for marijuana, and three each for hashish and cocaine. Groups also differed in identification of substances as strong/weak, modern/traditional, aggressive/passive, acceptable/unacceptable, and stimulating/boring. (Author/NB)
