Teaching Mathematics to Adolescents Classified as Educable Mentally Handicapped; Using Calculators to Remove the Computational Onus.
Horton, Steven V.; And Others
Remedial and Special Education (RASE), v13 n3 p36-60 May-Jun 1992
Seven junior high students with educable mental handicaps were trained to solve four-column subtraction problems involving regrouping. Results in performance favored calculators over pencil and paper, with rehearsal and visual cues influencing performance for only one student. With calculators, subjects' performances were equivalent to a comparison group of general education students. (Author/JDD)
