Special Education and the Exclusion of Youth with Social Maladjustments: A Cultural-Organizational Perspective.
Maag, John W.; Howell, Kenneth W.
Remedial and Special Education (RASE), v13 n1 p47-54,59 Jan-Feb 1992
This article addresses the controversy regarding the exclusion of youths labeled socially maladjusted from special education services for the seriously emotionally disturbed. The article reconceptualizes the issue from a cultural-organizational perspective, viewing such exclusion as resulting from a society that has little tolerance for "deviant" behavior and schools that must retain popular support.
