Asian-American Assertion: A Social Learning Analysis of Cultural Differences.
Zane, Nolan W. S.; And Others
Journal of Counseling Psychology, v38 n1 p63-70 Jan 1991
Assessed differences in self-reported assertion responding between Asian- (n=45) and Caucasian-Americans (n=74) across nine different situations. Related differences to prior experiences, expectancy outcomes, or self-efficacy beliefs. Findings suggest that assertion differences between ethnic groups are situationally specific, with most differences occurring in interactions with strangers. Asians tended to experience greater anxiety and guilt, regardless of assertiveness. (Author/NB)
