For the past 25 years, Medicaid, a federal-state program for low-income people who cannot afford medical care, has been an important vehicle for providing health care for poor children. Schools can help familiarize parents about Medicaid's Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment Services and refer children with suspected medical problems for screening. (MLH)
