Problem-Solving Deficits in Suicidal Patients: Trait Vulnerability or State Phenomenon?
Schotte, David E.; And Others
Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, v58 n5 p562-64 Oct 1990
Examined stability of interpersonal problem-solving skills in hospitalized suicide ideators (n=36). Subjects displayed marked changes in depressive symptoms, state anxiety, hopelessness, and suicide intent over time, and these improvements were associated with improvements in interpersonal problem-solving skills. Concluded that interpersonal problem-solving deficits may be concomitant, rather than cause, of depression, hopelessness, and suicide intent. (Author/NB)
