Family Ties, Friendships, and Subjective Well-Being among Black Americans.
Ellison, Christopher G.
Journal of Marriage and the Family, v52 n2 p298-310 May 1990
Examined relationships between kinship, friendships, and subjective well-being of Black adults, using data from National Survey of Black Americans. The results indicated, although number of friends was positively related to happiness regardless of age, other aspects of friendship varied by age; size, density, and intimacy of friendship networks were related to happiness but not life satisfaction.
