Cognitive Effects with and of Computer Technology.
Salomon, Gavriel
Communication Research, v17 n1 p26-44 Feb 1990
Discusses the distinction between cognitive effects with computers, whereby an individual's performance is redefined and upgraded during intellectual partnership with the computer, and effects of computers, whereby such partnership leaves durable and generalizable cognitive residues. Suggests two mechanisms for affecting cognition: skill stretching by means of novel cognitive requirements and skill internalization. (KEH)
