Describes a survey of 72 research libraries that examined bibliographic instruction programs from 1983 to 1988, looking at such factors as instructional methods, student population served, financial support, program evaluation methods, and the impact of technology. It is concluded that bibliographic instruction has changed in status from a luxury to a mainstream library service. (two references) (CLB)
