High School Attrition among Hispanic and Non-Hispanic White Youths.
Velez, William
Sociology of Education, v62 n2 p119-33 Apr 1989
Explores the determining factors which influence the dropout rates among Hispanics by analyzing and comparing Chicano, Cuban and Puerto Rican student populations. Factors identified include confrontation, accelerated role taking, social background, school environment, sociopsychological motivation, and immigrant status. Suggests that school officials should rethink policies to accommodate the at risk student. (KO)
