Assessed psychosocial impact of stroke on patient's primary support person. Collected three waves of data at six-month intervals. At first wave, identified support persons at risk for depression. At second and third waves, predicted and validated risk with at least 74 percent accuracy. Variables included Time 1 depression, optimism, concern about patient's future care, income, and relationship to patient. (Author/NB)
