The effect of sex role socialization on the achievement motivation of black preschool children of differing social classes was examined. Evidence showed that nontraditional sex role training leads to higher achievement motivation for girls and that traditional training leads to higher achievement motivation for boys. The multidimensional nature of socialization is stressed. (Author/VM)
