Changes in Social Networks of Women and Men Following Divorce.
Milardo, Robert M.
Journal of Family Issues, v8 n1 p78-96 Mar 1987
Analyzes the character and consequences of changes in the social networks of spouses following separation and divorce. For men, traditions encourage the development of personal friendships while simultaneously encouraging independence. Women, who accept responsibility for "kinkeeping" during and after marriage, simultaneously discouraging bonds with friends, have networks dominated by kin, typically high in social support and interference.
