Benign Neglect? Anthropology and the Study of Blacks in the United States.
Cerroni-Long, E. L.
Journal of Black Studies, v17 n4 p438-59 Jun 1987
Explains why American anthropologists have not studied the black minority. Presents an historical overview of how American scholars have tended to look at blacks sociologically, as members of a deprived race rather than as a living culture. Methodological problems and traditional anthropological interest in "primitivism" may explain the greater attention paid to American Indians. (KH)
