University administrators frequently fail to acknowledge the different experience of Black students, and typical college environments do not encourage the Black student's sense of dignity. Often isolated, Black students face a dilemma in deciding between group- and self-identity, and frequently disparage the value of the counseling systems designed to assist them. (KH)
