Client Perceptions of Counselors Using Positive and Negative Self-Involving Statements.
Andersen, Blake; Anderson, Wayne
Journal of Counseling Psychology, v32 n3 p462-65 Jul 1985
To assess client expectations and evaluations of self-involving statements, subjects read transcripts of a counseling session in which the counselor used either positive or negative statements. Subjects rated counselors using positive self-involving statements as more expert, attractive, trustworthy, and appropriate, and they expressed a greater willingness to see this type of counselor.
