Lessons for Psychometrics from Thermometry.
Choppin, Bruce
Evaluation in Education: An International Review Series, v9 n1 p9-12 1985
Preparing this article posthumously from Choppin's presentation notes, the author used the historical development of thermometry to suggest some lessons for educational measurement: (1) mathematical models are important; (2) models can be useful long before their underlying processes are understood; and (3) since there are no true models, there can be more than one model.
