John Schumann's "acculturation model" is analyzed theoretically and empirically and is found to explain most social and affective factors of language learning for foreign students in an English-speaking environment, except for social attitudes and integration strategies. However, it is not found to explain the interrelationships of social and affective factors. (MSE)
