People involved in prolonged, intensive interaction with others in an emotionally charged atmosphere may be susceptible to burnout and experience emotional exhaustion, negative attitudes toward clients, and the loss of a sense of accomplishment. Research on teacher burnout is reviewed and areas needing further research are defined. (PP)
