The Spelling Error Detection Correction Project completed at Chemical Abstracts Service, which extracted over 50,000 misspellings from approximately 25,000,000 words of scientific and scholarly text, shows that expected incidence of misspelling is 0.2 percent, and most misspellings are "typos," 90 percent of which are unlikely to be repeated.
