Better understanding of the rational limits of rule by law is advocated. Two specific goals should be pursued by teachers in legal education: (1) a regeneration of the notion of the law as a last resort and (2) a renewed exploration of noncoercive alternatives to law, particularly self-regulation (conscience) and market regulation.
