Suggests three strategies for making the research models of adolescent parenthood more realistic and more relevant to social policy: (1) a "continuous adjustment" perspective; (2) variables that differentiate among actions and circumstances leading to the initial childbearing; (3) attention given to environmental constraints and incentives that potentially affect the transition to parenthood.
