Among the results of a study of the employment of the 955 English doctorate recipients in 1978-79 were that 60 percent found full-time teaching positions, although only 46 percent of males and 35 percent of females received full-time, tenure-track positions; 12 percent found part-time teaching appointments or postdoctoral fellowships; and 16 percent found alternative work.
