The author describes the Norman Playgroup, a private, parent-run center which began to receive school district assistance in 1972. Several benefits are ascribed to this cooperative model: school funds allow wider service and articulation with primary schools, while nonprofessional staffing insures less expensive care and strong parental involvement.
