Children's Judgements of Correct and Reversed Sentences with 'It'.
Emerson, Harriet F.
Journal of Child Language, v7 n1 p137-55 Feb 1980
In an experiment investigating aspects of children's comprehension of sentences containing the connective "if," young children judged correct and reversed "Y if X" and "If X, Y" sentences as "sensible" or "silly." The comprehension of the role of "if" in sentences appears to be a late-developing ability, occurring inconsistently prior to age 7 or 8. (Author/AM)
