The role of the National Institute of Education (NIE) in the field of postsecondary education is examined. Although previously NIE's involvement with higher education research has been minimal, it is suggested that future NIE research will focus more heavily on postsecondary education. Postsecondary issues and concerns that will be important in future research are discussed. (SF)
