Changing Public Policy: The Impact of Public Opinion, Antiwar Demonstrations, and War Costs on Senate Voting on Vietnam War Motions
Burstein, Paul; Freudenburg, William
American Journal of Sociology, 84, 1, 99-122, Jul 78
In this study a new and quantitative approach to analyzing legislature change was applied to the U.S. Senate's change from support to opposition to the Vietnam war. Cumulative war costs, public opinion, and antiwar demonstrations all correlated with Senate roll call outcomes, but were also intercorrelated. General strengths and weaknesses of this approach were assessed. (BC)
