Attempts to identify successful teaching methods and to study teacher-pupil interactions using classroom based research techniques, are discussed in this article. Conclusions are that further studies need to be done to investigate the role of the teacher and the relationships between teacher intention, action, and the teaching topic. (Author/MA)
