Effects of Immediate Testing on Delayed Retrieval: Search and Recovery Operations with Four Types of Cue
Bartlett, James Craig
Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 3, 6, 719-32, Nov 77

Results were interpreted within a levels-of-processing framework in which the nature of the information used in retrieval, rather than the speed or difficulty of retrieval determines subsequent accessibility.
