A study of variants in the form of stylistically differentiated or full-fledged doublets in contemporary standard Russian. It is concluded that distribution of variants depends upon the speakers' social characteristics. Quantitative differences in the distribution of variants correspond to social differences. Other parameters determine the distribution to a different extent. (AMH)
