Toward a Synthesis of Ethnographic and Survey Methods
Myers, Vincent
Human Organization, 36, 3, 244-51, F 77
During a nationwide survey, various perplexing methodological problems were confronted; breakthroughs were made by synthesizing ethnographic and survey methods. Youthful minority men and women were recruited, trained, and given collegial responsibility for survey conceptualization, instrument development, coding and data interpretation. This survey is described, and its more interesting aspects are illustrated with excerpts from diaries kept by members of the research team. (Author/NQ)
