The study assessed intra-school factors that seemed to be related to the sharp enrollment decline in French-language classes in southwestern Manitoba. Questionnaires were distributed to all French-language teachers and principals in 78 elementary and secondary schools in 14 school divisions and school districts. It was found that a high proportion of French-language teachers in the rural southwestern divisions proved to be inadequately prepared. (Author/NQ)
