Stress symptoms reported by 725 students were analyzed in terms of causes to which they were attributed. Psychological discomfort was consistently related to social alienation, demands of school, and failure in supporting peer and heterosexual relationships. Implications for student services programming and specific consultation strategies are discussed. (Author)
