Examines the roles of the various local communities in the development of secondary grammar school education in the western State of Nigeria during the period 1925-1955 noting that many scholars and writers have unduly exaggerated the roles of the various missionary bodies in the development of formal education in the country, forgetting that in some sense mission schools are, indeed, community schools.
