Embedding Service Design Teaching to Impact the Future of Nursing Leadership and Development -- A Case Study
Perspectives: Policy and Practice in Higher Education, v29 n2 p103-110 2025
Service design is an inclusive and powerful process that works in any industry that produces services. The field of nursing is no exception. Transferring service design knowledge from experts in institutions to the students in different specialties and fields of study is important to spread its use. This case study follows the implementation of service design education with both an expert in service design and a nursing lecturer leading a master's-level nursing course focused on leadership and development. The aim was to equip future nursing leaders with the skills to purposefully, collaboratively and effectively change experiences for patients in the healthcare field. Through self-reflection journals at the end of the course, the necessary mindset shift on problem-solving can be seen in the students.
