The Impact of Educational Games on Speaking Skills in the Foreign Language Teaching Process
Novitas-ROYAL (Research on Youth and Language), v19 n1 p229-240 2025
Speaking is a vital skill frequently used in education and social life and allows individuals to communicate with other people in their daily lives. Many factors influence the development of speaking skills. The teacher needs to consider these factors during the teaching process. This study examines the effect of games on speaking skills in foreign language teaching. In this qualitative research, the researchers developed a semi-structured interview form during the data collection. The interviews were conducted at the end of each unit in focus group interviews with 10 participant students, approximately 10 minutes with each group, 100 minutes in total. The obtained data were analyzed via content analysis. The results have revealed that improving students' speaking skills in the language teaching process is complex. Practical methods and techniques should be used to reduce student stress, overcome fear, and create a comfortable environment in the classroom. Therefore, games provide a low-pressure setting where students can practice English without worrying about making mistakes. This casual setting enhances their confidence and makes language study more enjoyable.
